Bill has local impact, support is greatly needed

Dear Editor,
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is funded by the federal government.
I am writing to express our opinion that it is an outrage that the ACLU is being given thousands of dollars in attorney fees that taxpayers have to pay in lawsuits which the ACLU bring against veterans' memorials.
The ACLU has received approximately $63,000 so far in its lawsuit to destroy the religious symbol on the Mojave Desert Veterans' Memorial (a Christian cross erected by veterans in 1934 on what was then private land -- in 1999 it was incorporated in the Mojave Desert Preserve, which is federal land.)
How could a government with the motto "In God We Trust" allow and fund such actions?
The Mound City National Cemetery Preservation Committee cannot fund any legal action to prevent the ACLU or similar groups from suing our local cemetery demanding the removal of hundreds of religious symbols on veterans' tombstones.
We are asking your readers to write their Congressmen and urge them to support PERA - The Veterans' Memorials, Boy Scouts, Public Seals, and Other Public Expressions of Religion Protection Act of 2007. This is House Report #725 and Senate Bill #415.
This not only has local impact, but also national impact. Your support is greatly needed.
Sincerely,
Clayton Bierbaum
Chairman, Mound City National Cemetery Preservation Committee
