Pharoahs lose game to Lovejoy
A disastrous first quarter doomed the Egyptian Pharoahs against the Lovejoy Wildcats in the second game of the Fourth Annual Country Insurance and Financial Services Martin Luther King Classic held at Meridian High School.
Lovejoy held on to win 67-52 after racing to a 24-10 first quarter lead. Dwayne Hamiel scored eight points in the first two minutes of the game, four directly from steals, and the Wildcats led 10-2.
Lovejoy extended the lead to 35-14 by halftime but Egyptian outscored the Wildcats in both the third and fourth quarters. Rayshaun Woodson converted a steal into a bucket less than a minute into the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to thirteen at 51-38 but the Pharoahs could get no closer.
Hamiel, named game MVP for the second straight year at the Classic, led all scorers with 31 points. Maurio Agnew added 11 and Leroy Jones ten for Lovejoy, a small high school in Brooklyn, Illinois, just north of East St. Louis along the Mississippi River.
Egyptian was led by Zed Woodson with 21 points and Brady Buckley with 18. Rayshaun Woodson barely missed double digits with nine points.
